How to use a Bag Valve Mask on an Adult:
Bag valve masks are recommended for 2 person CPR, but not for single rescuer. Single rescuers should use a pocket mask.
Ratio: Compressions to Breaths for Single Rescuers
- Adults: 30:2
- Children: 30:2
- Infants: 30:2
Ratio: Compressions to Breaths for 2 Rescuer
- Adults: 30:2
- Children: 30:2
- Infants: 30:2
Rescue Breathing
- Adults: 1 breath every 5-6 seconds
- Children: 1 breath every 5-6 seconds
- Infants: 1 breath every 5-6 seconds
- Advanced Airway: 1 breath every 6-8 seconds
Choking for Adult Victims
- Perform abdominal thrusts just above the navel in an upward motion.
- Continue until adult becomes unconscious or the object is removed.
- If they become unconscious, start adult CPR.
Choking for Infant Victims
- Perform 5 back blows and 5 chest thrusts
- Continue until infant becomes unconscious or the object is removed.
- If they become unconscious, start infant CPR.
